KazNARU Celebrates the Week of the Languages
An Internationally Enriched “Language and Culture Fair” Connects Languages, Traditions and Abai’s Concept of the Complete Person.
Almaty, September 29, 2026. The Department of Languages of Kazakh National Agrarian Research University (KazNARU) in Almaty organised a week-long programme marking the Day of the Languages of the People of Kazakhstan. It was held under the theme “Language Is the Heart of the People and the Pillar of the Nation”.
As part of the celebration, Senior lecturers Dzhamaldinova M. T. and Myrzakhmet M. Zh. organised an interactive event entitled “Language and Culture Fair” with the students of the Faculties of Veterinary Medicine and Zooengineering, and Engineering Technologies. The event also welcomed Maliha Chowdhurry, a Fulbright English Language Teaching Assistant, adding an international dimension to the university’s celebration.
The purpose of the event was to encourage language learning, introduce students to the cultures and traditions of peoples around the world, strengthen linguistic and intercultural competence, and give young people opportunities to express their creativity. Moving beyond a conventional classroom format, the Department of Languages created an engaging platform built around interactive activities, games and quizzes.
The event’s guiding motto, “Language and Culture – the Path to the Complete Person”, reflected the enduring relevance of Abai’s concept of the “Complete Person” (Tolyq Adam). Its central message was simple yet powerful: learning a language means more than memorising words. It opens a way to understand other people and cultures, while also deepening our understanding of ourselves. In this sense, language serves not only as a means of communication but also as a carrier of cultural memory, values and worldviews.
Welcoming faculty members, students and guests, the hosts introduced the programme and highlighted the close relationship between language, culture and personal development. The activities encouraged students to engage with languages and cultural traditions in an active, collaborative setting.
At the end of the programme, the jury finalised the scores and announced the winning team. Guests of honour Maliha Chowdhurry and Dosmailova Gaukhar Kuanyshkyzy expressed their gratitude to the students for their active participation and creativity. Certificates and honorary awards were presented to the winners and the most active participants.
The “Language and Culture Fair” provided students with an opportunity to practise English in authentic communicative situations, broaden their knowledge of different countries’ languages and traditions, and develop teamwork, creativity and quick-thinking skills. More broadly, the event demonstrated KazNARU’s commitment to an inclusive, interactive learning environment in which language education supports intercultural dialogue and students’ personal growth.
