The ICESCO–Al-Farabi Center for Science Diplomacy
The ICESCO–Al-Farabi Center for Science Diplomacy will be officially established at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, marking a milestone in expanding international academic and diplomatic collaboration. A comprehensive memorandum of mutual cooperation establishing this new international structure was signed during an official ceremony by Samgat Yermekbayev, Deputy Chairman of the Board and First Vice-Rector of KazNU, alongside Dr. Salim M. Al-Malik, Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).
Core Priorities and Strategic Initiatives:
Specialized Training and Global Scientific Forums: The center is dedicated to preparing a new cadre of diplomats equipped with deep expertise in academic, scientific, and technological engagement. Beyond specialized educational tracks, the institution will design joint cross-border research initiatives and host prominent international science and technology conferences.
Trilateral Interregional Cooperation Platform: Designed as an essential bridging mechanism, the center will operate as a strategic hub connecting Africa, Asia, and the Arab world. It aims to streamline the continuous flow of technical knowledge, joint innovation projects, and shared academic resources across these crucial regions.
Policy Guidance and Strategic Advisory Services: Functioning as an authoritative analytical body, the entity will offer high-level consulting services to ICESCO leadership, its constituent member states, and their respective national commissions. Its guidance will focus on drafting modern science diplomacy frameworks and shaping national research policies.
Joint Governance and Institutional Backing: Operational leadership will be managed by a joint KazNU–ICESCO steering committee, working in close consultation with an international advisory board composed of renowned world scholars. ICESCO will actively support the center by providing technical expertise, continuous operational resources, and direct access to its extensive international network of partner nations.
