At Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), the International Institute of “Digital Technologies and Robotics” was officially opened in partnership with the Chinese company Jiangsu Huibo Robotics Technology Co., Ltd., alongside the launch of the specialized Robotics and Mechatronics Competence Center (Farabi Robotics).
In 2025, the official opening of the International Institute of “Digital Technologies and Robotics” and the Robotics Center took place at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Consul General of China in Almaty Jiang Wei, Chairman of the Board – Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev, and CEO of Huibo Robotics Wang Zhenhuang.
This large-scale project is a modern innovative solution that combines the academic potential of KazNU with the technological capabilities of Jiangsu Huibo Robotics Technology Co., Ltd.. An important agreement was reached during the official visit of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the People’s Republic of China.
The guests were welcomed by Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev, who introduced them to the work of the complex.
The head of the university noted that the center is an advanced educational space that allows students to master digital engineering and industrial robotics. Here, students study all production processes in a digital environment and learn the interconnection of each stage as well as how to work with complex automated systems.
The center covers an area of 600 square meters. Five innovative platforms represent complexes created on the basis of modern production technologies and artificial intelligence. They are designed for working with intelligent robots.
In particular, the center includes a virtual factory, industrial robot programming systems, artificial intelligence and machine vision platforms, training systems for using industrial robots, and Unitree Go2 Pro robots capable of performing complex bionic movements and interactive tasks. Currently, 13 modern robots are installed in the center.
The institute will develop and implement joint educational programs in Robotics, Mechatronics, Artificial Intelligence, and the Internet of Things at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Retraining courses in digital technologies are also planned.
In his speech, Minister Sayasat Nurbek highly appreciated the potential of the center, noting that such practice-oriented educational models play a crucial role in training a new generation of engineers and IT specialists.
Chinese partner Wang Zhenhuang stated that this project will contribute to further scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries, raising robotics education and research to a new level.
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to create startups and innovative companies, as well as to launch the production of robotic system components in Kazakhstan. Programs for joint internships, academic mobility, and exchange of experience with international universities and technology companies will also be introduced.
In the future, international conferences and hackathons will be organized. This will stimulate the development of joint educational and scientific programs with universities in China and other countries.
Guests and industry experts expressed confidence that this initiative will give a strong boost to the development of technical education in the country.
